Often called L.A., Los Angeles is the largest city in the state of California and the second-largest city in the United States. The city of Los Angeles has an estimated population of 3.8 million, and the five-county area around Los Angeles has an estimated population of 16.4 million. The Los Angeles area is one of the world’s focal points of culture, technology, international trade, and higher education, and is home to many world-renowned institutions across a broad range of cultural and professional fields. In addition, the city leads the world in entertainment production, including motion pictures, television, and recorded music.
